Best friends Dunkin and Jay have little to live for in Los Angeles. Dunkin is tired of the monotony of his aimless existence and is suffering from a chronic stomach disease. Jay has just been dumped by his fiancé. With nothing else to anticipate at home but the next cocaine-induced high, Dunkin and Jay journey on a whim to exotic Colombia. In Colombia, Dunkin and Jay find a people and terrain more beautiful than they had imagined. They discover new friendships and loves. The peace that Colombia offers, however, is constantly threatened by the troubles they've carried with them-namely, addiction and an unwillingness to confront their own problems. Their self-defeating behavior lands an innocent friend in jail, and Dunkin risks both his friendship with Jay and his developing romance with the kind-hearted Angelica as he lets himself spiral out of control. Review :
'Proudly filmed in Colombia'
You've seen the way movies are usually showing Colombia, especially main cities like Bogotá, Medellín or along the sea like Cartagena. More of them are not even filmed in Colombia and they show poor cities with a lot of jungle and bombs exploding and a lot of drugs everywhere. Well, I saw this movie at the 'Festival des Films du Monde de Montréal' and Ryan Byrne who was answering questions at the end of the film wanted to change this and took the whole job and actually showed what Colombia could be for an American or any foreigner who wants to visit the country.
Dunkin (Terrence Bergeron) and his best friend Jay (Ryan Byrne) are fleeing from personal problems and decided to visit Colombia hoping to find a place to feel at ease especially because they're both addicted to drugs and they see Colombia as the paradise of drugs. What they find is a new land and people that is willing to live no matter the problems they have in their country. So they try to take the advice of one person who had real problems: "En Colombia a pesar de los problemas, se vive! (In Colombia no matter the problems are, you really live!)".
Pay attention to the answer of Angélica (Ana María Medina) when Dunkin is encouraging her to leave Colombia and study in USA. Really touching for Colombians who left the country and nice advice for those thinking of leaving it.
Also as a Colombian living far away from my country I was really touched by the movie and reminded me what I really love about it and encouraged me to come back and enjoy that kind of living once again. For people tired of the bad image of Colombia this movie is a MUST to see.
